Billy Elliot

The classic British book and film Billy Elliot was made into a musical in 2005 and has been a hit ever since. The screenplay and book, written by Lee Hall, centres around a young boy named Billy Elliot. Billy lives with his father, brother and grandma following his mother’s death. The young boy discovers and interest, and more importantly a massive talent, for ballet dancing. However, boxing is considered a much more appropriate hobby within the masculine household of the Elliot’s. The musical tells the story of the struggles and sacrifices of this young boy trying to pursue his talent.

The performance has received huge successes including being nominated for an unbelievable nine Laurence Olivier Awards, four of which they won. The musical has also dazzled audiences from Broadway to Australia as the story of a boy from a struggling family fallen victim at the hands of the miners strike open their hearts and minds to let Billy Elliot achieve his potential.
